Mumbai, Report by sparsh Desai,

We are glad to share with you that as part of Praja’s Urban Governance Study, as on July 2019, we have completed the mapping study in 20 States (Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Orissa, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana and Goa) and Consultations in 10 States (Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra and Goa and Phase 1 States Key Findings). In the last month we conducted Haryana Consultation in Gurugram and study of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and Patna, Bihar.   We conducted the Haryana Consultation on 9th July 2019 in Gurugram. The consultation saw participation from varied stakeholders such as Elected Representatives (Councillors, MLA), municipal administration and Civil Society Organisations from Gurugram. In the Conference we had interesting discussions around the recent amendment of directly elected Mayor in Haryana. The discussion also covered insights on empowered councillors, municipal finance and multiple agencies. To know more about the Consultation, click on Read More. Read More - Haryana Consultation We did a study of the Lucknow Nagar Nigam in July to study Urban Governance system in Uttar Pradesh. The practice of 'Lok Mangal Divas' in Lucknow as a public participation platform is introduced by the directly elected Mayor of Lucknow. This provides a strong platform for citizen complaints and fast-tracks the complains to the administration. To know more about the Local Urban Governance system in Lucknow, click on Read More. Read More - Lucknow Study We conducted Urban Governance study in Patna Municipal Corporation in July. The Councillors and administrative officials of Patna are well aware of the 74th Constitution Amendment Act. There are limited platforms to raise issue for Councillors in Patna. The Councillors get Councillor fund of 2 Crores which can be used for specific projects such as community hall and swimming pool. This restricts the Councillors from using the fund to solve ward specific issues. To know more about the system of Patna Municipal Corporation, click on Read More. We look forward to your thoughts and suggestions at urbandialogue@praja.org."
